Singer-songwriter Jon Scott will release his new single, “Eyes Like the Sun,” digitally on October 23rd, 2026. Inspired by his daughter, the song explores the love, vulnerability and unanswered questions that come with becoming a father.

Written by Scott, credited as John Palmer, and produced by Scott and Gordon Hulbert, “Eyes Like the Sun” captures a moment familiar to many parents: looking into a child’s eyes and feeling both overwhelmed by love and uncertain about the responsibility ahead. Rather than offering a picture of parenthood with everything figured out, Scott draws from the doubts and hopes that made the experience so meaningful.

“The inspiration for this song is my beautiful daughter, whose eyes, like most little girls, just shone so bright with love and curiosity,” Scott explains. “The song basically is about the wonder and uncertainty of becoming a father.”

That balance runs through the lyrics. The line “Maybe my dreams will come true, maybe they never will” gives voice to the uncertainty Scott felt as a new dad, while “Lovely eyes that haunt me” leads into a more vulnerable admission: “Searching for my weakness, seeing right through my pretense.” Together, these thoughts reveal a parent learning to navigate a bond that asks him to be more open, even when he does not have all the answers.

With musical influences spanning soul, pop, jazz, adult-oriented rock and easy listening, Scott places personal storytelling at the center of this release. Gordon Hulbert also engineered the recording, with the same writing and production partnership continuing on Scott’s next single, “I Dream of You,” arriving digitally on November 20, 2026.

While “Eyes Like the Sun” reflects on his relationship with his daughter, “I Dream of You” takes its inspiration from a playful exchange with his wife. After Scott mentioned that he rarely remembers dreaming, she asked whether that included dreams about her. His quick response, “Of course, I dream of you, my love,” became the starting point for the song.

Together, the releases draw from two different sides of family life: the profound uncertainty of becoming a parent and the everyday humor shared between partners. “Eyes Like the Sun” introduces that personal perspective first, offering a heartfelt reflection on the way a child can make a parent feel both deeply loved and completely exposed.

“Eyes Like the Sun” will be available digitally on October 23rd, 2026. “I Dream of You” follows on November 20th, 2026.
